| Did you know that associations are considered charitable organizations? |
|
By Jessica Blomquist, Starboard Group, Inc. Association leaders sometimes forget to ask their members for end-of-year gifts to their organization because they don't think of associations as charities or don't want to burden their members with another correspondence. But remember this: if your association is a 501(c)(3) or partners with a charity, your member's donations are tax deductible. According to the IRS, in most cases donors can get a tax deduction worth up to 50% of their income. November is the best time to send out an appeal letter reminding members of your need for donations to education, the annual fund or other important programs. Working the end of the year donation angle can really pay off. You never know who might call on Dec. 31st. |
